15th December is a date that changed my life three years ago. It was the day I lost my mentor, guru, guide, friend and husband, Mr. K.K.Seth. Since that year, I decided to give him a musical dedication on his death anniversary. He is the person who taught me to dream, taught me to push myself to achieve what I want and I have seen this day in my singing journey only because of him.
Nirvana is my way of keeping his dream alive! This year I decided to join hands with ALERT India (Association for Leprosy Education, Rehabilitation and Treatment-India), an organization that is working tirelessly to improve the quality of life of people suffering from leprosy. Organized on Monday, 15th December 2014 that marked his third death anniversary, the concert was a fund raiser for the organization. There couldn’t be a better way to give back to the society. As an artist I feel through my music I must spread some happiness among the people who need our support. It feels complete only when we share what we have with others who are deprived of it.
On this day, I was fortunate enough to have people from the film and music fraternity to support me through the evening.Satish Kaushik, Rekha Bhardwaj, Nagesh Kuknoor, Dolly Thakore among others attended Nirvana at Bhaidas Hall in Vile Parle, Mumbai. It always feels great to have so much love and support around you. Isn’t it? 🙂
The concert began with my boys, Kanishk and Kavish performing Zihal-e-Miskin from Trance with Khusrow. While Kanishk gave the vocals, Kavish beautifully played the guitar. They certainly made their father proud. My audience is a very important part of my extended family and as a ritual I follow, I had members of the audience release Trance with Khusrow on stage.
Each time I take the stage, I realise the connect I have with the energy above. In fact there are times during my performance when I loose myself and its difficult to get myself out of it. Its a beautiful state of trance. Nirvana this year was a soulful evening too. I am sure Mr. Seth is smiling from up there. He is with me each day. As Rumi says ” “Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.”
Thank you to each one of you who has supported me through my difficult times. Special mention to Veera ji and the entire Alert India team who helped me make this evening possible. Not to forget, my entire team who stands by me like a rock!
Signing off, until the next time!
