Concert Chronicles

08
Sep 2014

A rainy morning, soaked earth, picturesque scenic beauty with some soulful music and companions enroute to Pune. Saturday, 9th August 2014 marked another concert in my musical journey. This time it was for some suited people and experts of number crunching. Hosted by IIFL, the concert was held at one of the plush hotels of Pune, JW Marriott.
Something that I consider a blessing is the fact that I got the opportunity to meet the great Spiritual Guru, Mahatria Ra. An hour long session with him was a exchange of great positive energy and blessings!

With enough rest and riyaaz I along with my Karwaan group took to the stage at 9.30 pm. Slowly the audience started filing up the beautifully decorated tables. As usual the lighting and great sound set up set the mood for the rest of the evening.

Having prepared a blend of Sufi and Bollywood songs,  I got ready to dissolve myself into divinity.  Khuda Wohi Hai is what I selected to begin this performance with.  The song has great power and positivity.  In fact it takes me into beautiful space and urges me to stay there for longer. Proceeding with old Hindi treasures Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai and Tu pyaar ka Sagar Hai I added my own Sufi touch to them. One of my most popular Bollywood songs, Iktara from Wake Up Sid set a different tone to the evening. With ' once more' echoing at the venue I sang the song again at the end of the performance. Chaap Tilak a Sufi classic, Khari Khari, from the Hollywood film Trishna, a lovely nazm, Ek Din, and Mora Piya from the film Rajneeti follwed through the performance. A beautiful medley of priceless songs of Nursat Fateh Ali Khan ji made people get off their chairs and sway with happiness. That's what for me is the success of a performance!

With upteen requests of songs from my personal and Bollywood songs the performance surpassed its stipulated time. Ek samaa bandh gaya tha! With a lovely team of exceptional musicians, Sanjoy Das, Debarpito Saha, Ojas Adhiya, Varun Sunil, Bernard Vaz and my younger son Kanishk the evening seemed just perfect!

The end of this beautiful concert was marked by applauds from eminent personalities including Mr. Arun Shourie. I had an adventurous journey back home with of course the moon smiling upon me! A day to remember and add to my musical diary! See you until next time.
